From The Folknik Nov/Dec 1999

Berkeley Free Folk Festival Scheduled For May 6-7, 2000

On October 12, 1999 the Berkeley City Council voted unanimously to support a resolution sponsored by Councilmembers Linda Maio, Dona Spring and Diane Woolley to waive all fees for Live Oak Park and Live Oak Recreation Center for the Year 2000 Festival! The Council also waived the 4-hour limit on "noise" (translated: amplified music). THANKS TO THE CITY OF BERKELEY!

If funding is available, there will be another free dance at Ashkenaz on Friday, May 5, 2000. When the Festival lost Fellowship Hall, it also lost its fiscal agent (the Unitarian Fellowship), but fortunately the Board of Ashkenaz voted to take over management of Festival funding. THANKS TO ASHKENAZ!!!

Programming details are indefinite now, but Utah Phillips has already said he wants to be at the new, and very beautiful festival location (on Sunday), and Shay Black has agreed to have another great Irish music session after the main concert on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Since bonfires are not allowed in city parks, maybe there will be Irish music by candlelight!

Stay tuned to the folknik for further details. Scheduling suggestions welcomed & encouraged.

Wood and a few carpenters are needed to build a stage, so please call Jessica Bryan at (510) 843-3810 if you can help. Thanks.
