Cittern Book Contributors Sought

I am currently writing a book on contemporary cittern playing aimed at the beginner and the guitar convert.

This will be a nonprofit book, and all proceeds will be redirected to support young musicians (under 25) playing traditional music in the north of England. Contributors will be fully credited, and will receive a copy of the completed book, but there will be no royalties. SRFN, the publishers have already succesfully published two books of 17th & 18th century manuscript tunes on this basis, and workshops, festival events, and a childrens traditional music project have been set up using the funds raised in this way.

I am looking for tunings, chord charts, chord lists etc., especially from anyone playing in tuning ADADE,although all info would be gratefully received. I look forward to hearing from anyone out there who can help.

Gav Davenport. (Ed. Note: I could only find an email address for Gavin; it's <GavinD@gremlin.co.uk>

Change of Song Page Editor

Jan Seifert, our Song Page Editor, is resigning at the end of 1998 because of other commitments. Many thanks to her for hours and hours of work for the past two years. Several people have responded to our request for a new song editor; watch the song page in the next issue.

Clarke Daniels M.D. asks for medical folk music! "I am collecting songs that have been sung over the years by medical students, such as 'Put on the Old Blue Ointment', 'Red Cells in my Urine', etc. . Bawdy songs, songs of a sexist nature and generally disgusting songs will also be gratefully accepted, recognizing that the song does not necessarily represent a poor attitude on the part of the contributor.." Anyone knowing such, or knowing a doctor who would, Email to Clarke at cgdaniels@mindspring.com Help appreciated.

Steve Barnes, festival producer of Fremantle, Australia, defines folk music as "music with its roots in the past but its branches wherever they choose to grow."

David Brown has updated his web page radio list, fixed some of the links on the folk music page and added some things. Check at http://www.starquest.com/people/david

Joe Hickerson, our best buddy at the Library of Congress, has retired after 35 years from his post in the Archive of Folk Culture. He is missed! No longer can we call for obscure information, be told he's out and received an instant return call to save us the long distance charge! The American Folklife Center, a true gold mine of information, is reached at http://leweb.loc.gov/folklife/ or phone (202) 707 5510 Write AFC LC, WDC 20540

Jody Stecher is producing a CD for bluegrasser Chris Brashera at Mike Cogan's Bay Records recording studio in Berkeley.

Holly Tannen is working on a combination recording of folk music and originals, also at Bay. Mike is engineering, Kit Higginson producing.

Murphy's Restaurant and Pub, everyone's favorite place in Sebastopol, has closed. The building was sold. So good things come to an end.
