Camp Harmony 2000/2001

From The Folknik Sept/Oct 2000

Registration

We are getting ready for another wonderful Camp Harmony gathering. The dates this year are Wednesday, December 27 through Monday, January 1. If you haven't registered yet-do it now! The deadline for registration is December 1. If you are already registered, and realize you can't make all or part of camp, please notify our registrar, Sandie Schuitema at SandMando@aol.com or by phone at (510) 865-3545 (before 9:00 p.m. please!) as soon as you know.

Prompt cancellation benefits you, by way of a larger refund, and anyone on the waiting list for camp. See the pink registration instructions from the last folknik or your confirmation letter for details. If you are already registered, please allow 30 days to receive your confirmation letter. If you haven't heard from Sandie by then (or by December 10 at the latest), contact her. (Did you include an SASE? If not, that's why you haven't heard. Send her one if you forgot!)

Drop-ins

If you are not signed up by December 1, SFFMC members can use the drop-in policy. The cost per day is $32 for adults, $25 for kids under 12, plus the usual one hour of chores. This price does not include any meals, but there may be some meals for sale by other campers. Look on the bulletin board in the Registration Room when you arrive.

Remember that a drop-in "day" is 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. the next day. Drop-ins may use a bed if one is available, but pre-registered campers have priority on beds each day, so be sure to vacate your bed completely by noon to make it available to newly arriving pre-registered campers, and please do not claim a bed before 10:00 p.m.

Workshops

As always, there will be many workshops and activities at camp for young and old, active and sedentary, beginning and accomplished, but nobody knows yet what all those activities will be! Since there is no pre-arranged staff, anyone can (and is encouraged to) hold a workshop. Madge Strong (mstrong@mcn.org or (707) 467-0497) is coordinating pre-camp workshop sign-ups. If you know you would like to hold a workshop, contact her. There is always a special need for beginning-anything! If you can introduce others to your instrument, please step forward. There will still be plenty of space left at camp for unscheduled workshops of all kinds. Check the Workshop Calendar when you arrive.

Chores

Workshops, evening concerts and dances and song and tune sessions are only a few of the activities at camp. One of the most rewarding activities is the way you help camp work for all of us: your chore hours. There are so many ways to fulfill this very necessary obligation. Helping Debby in the kitchen is one of the main ways, or doing a stint in a parking lot is a great way to fill those hours. We also need people to make coffee, especially early in the morning in Sommer Lodge (on the activities side of camp). You can sign up for those, and other jobs, when you arrive at camp.

There are a few chore jobs that we need to know in advance if they will be filled. If you can commit now to one of the following camp jobs, please contact Mary Luckhardt. You will know what your camp chores will be, and we will know that there will be someone to do these very important chores: Take Down: 2-3 hours of work on Monday, January 1 fulfills all 5 chore hours for a full-camp camper. There are 12 of these choice spots.

Daily Arts and Crafts Supervisor: duties are to keep an eye on the arts and crafts workshop rooms on both sides of camp during your day and make sure they are neat and closed up before dinner. A one-day commitment fulfills 5 hours of chores; we have 5 places to fill. Mary can be reached at mary@luckhardt.com or (510) 233-5065 to reserve one of these chore slots.

Whether you commit early to a special chore or sign up for your chores at registration, the basic rule is the same: your chore hours are part of your "payment" for attending camp-it's how we keep camp costs low. You are responsible for the chores signed for in your name. Please show up on time and do them regardless of how much fun you might be having at the time.

Miscellaneous

If you have any health, disability or dietary concerns, contact Ray Frank at dadgbe@davis.com or (530) 756-7089. Flu shots are highly recommended and are most effective at least 6 weeks before they are needed. Isn't that right about now?

As always: NO PETS! Also no beeping things are allowed to beep at camp.

Button Party

The Camp Harmony Button Making Party is Tuesday, December 5 at 5:00 p.m. at David and Mary Luckhardt's house in Richmond. Call (510) 233-5065 or e-mail mary@luckhardt.com for directions.

Happy New Year to all our Harmony Family from the Camp Committee. We hope to see you all at Camp!
