SFFMC's annual Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas and other observations of the holiday season party is Friday, December 15 at 885 Clayton Street at 8:30 p.m. Bring favorite seasonal treats-cookies, cakes, fruit, cheese, crackers and such-along with good cheer and appropriate songs. Both non-alcoholic and with-wine grog is provided by the Club.
The fold-in will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the home of Abe and
Joan Feinberg.
The more, the merrier-to help with the folknik, enjoy a meal afterwards, and to make music. Bring a potluck dish and instruments.
The Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University is showing the exhibition "Trains that Passed in the Night: The Railroad Photographs of O. Winston Link" through November 12. Link spent years capturing the spirit of the steam-run railroads in Appalachian coal country, taking remarkable nighttime shots illuminated by strategically placed flashguns, with atmospheric images of locomotives emerging from billows of steam and mists.
The Center and its exhibitions are free and open to the public, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Parking is free on weekends. Come early and picnic in the adjacent Rodin Sculpture Garden.
Utah Phillips, nationally-known folk artist and singer/story-teller, has a
Web site which briefly describes his life, songs and stories, and his radio
show Loafer's Glory, 5:00 p.m. Sundays on KPFA. His songbook, Starlight on the
Rails, with songs we know and love, such as "Goodnight-Loving Trail",
"Starlight on the Rails", and "Daddy What's a Train", is

w 12/16 Holiday Folk Festival: From 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., KALW will present its winter folk festival with live music in celebration of the holidays. The Bay Area Celtic group Golden Bough will be among the local musicians joining us in the KALW studios, performing seasonal songs.
