Dale Zola, M.A. Music, is a singer/songwriter and voice teacher. She leads a spiritually-oriented women’s singing group called Circle Sing. The group sings a wide variety of heart-filled songs from many different genres. Dale also writes songs for the group.
Dale sings the jazz standards in retirement homes. Sometimes she leads sing alongs, and sometimes she sings solo with her jazz piano accompanist, Si Perkoff.
Dale has taught music for thirty years to both children and adults. She teaches vocal production, song writing, sight singing, ear training, and how to carry a tune. She also teaches basic piano skills, including how to play charts and accompany oneself on the piano while singing. Her CDs include The Breeze at Dawn, a collection of Rumi poems that she set to songs, and The Heart of a Miller, for which she wrote all the songs and is also the vocalist.
For the last several years, Dale has been playing electric bass. She plays many styles, including folk, country, popular, and jazz.
Along with her husband Dan, Dale has co-produced The Great Night of Rumi for the last twelve years and the Great Night of Soul Poetry for the last five. The next Great Night of Rumi will be on May 19, 2007 at The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. Advanced tickets are recommended, since this event usually sells out. Dale returned in September, 2005 from Oneness University in India, where she was initiated by Amma and Bhagavan to give deeksha. Deeksha is a transmission of spiritual energy. It is non-sectarian and is a powerful adjunct to any spiritual path or self work such as therapy or twelve-step programs. On Monday nights at Northbrae Church in Berkeley, she leads an evening of singing, deeksha, and gazing meditation.
