The Moveable Folk Festival
(Sonoma County Folk Festival)
From The Folknik Mar/Apr 1998
Many changes are happening this year to the Sonoma County Folk Festival. The March,
1998 festival will be a Moveable Fest(ival) on the third weekend-March 20, 21 and 22.
- Friday, March 20-Starts off with the Cajun Dance at Luther Burbank Center in
Santa Rosa with the engaging playing of the Suzy Thompson Trio to get your feet
tapping. Marilyn Smith leads a workshop at 7:30 p.m, and the Big Dance starts at
8:30. Of course, there's Cajun food available to munch on between dances.
- Saturday, March 21-There will be a Brunch Pick & Sing gathering at The Rose
Pub during the day. The Big Concert at LBC at night will be Doc and Dawg
(AKA Doc Watson and David Grisman). This will be their only Bay Area duo
performance and is expected to be a sold-out event.
- Sunday, March 22-The Festival will move to Sebastopol. Three next-door
buildings are the setting for: An all day children's area with concerts, story telling,
play party games and other participatory events at the Sebastopol Teen Center
and an all day Contra dance from 1:00-4:30 p.m., with some great callers and live
music at Wishmann Hall. There will also be an all day concert in the Sebastopol
Community Center with Hawkeye Herman, Cathy Kallick, Sourdough Slim,
Bruce Molsky, Modern Hicks and more surprise guests!
- Plus ...instrumental and singing workshops, including a yodeling workshop! There
is an instrument check so you can bring your own instruments, take them out to
play at Pickin' Parlours, jams or workshops and check them when you need to be
free.
