Berkeley Free Folk Festival 1998 Update

From The Folknik Jan/Feb 1998

The Berkeley Free Folk Festival is scheduled for May 9-1, 1998 and will probably be at the same location. We're going to attempt to have everything on the ground level so all events are accessible to everyone. I'll be setting up the schedule in January or February and anyone who wants to participate, please let me know.

Since this will be Mother's Day weekend, we'll be doing some things appropriate for the occasion: Ingrid Noyes will be organizing a set of songs related to mothers. If you have a favorite song about your mother (or anybody else's mother) and would like to be involved, call or write Ingrid: P.O. Box 194, Tomales, CA 94971, (707) 878-2415.

Laurie Vela will coordinate the kids' concert and give a workshop on writing songs for children. Other special events will include a workshop: Folk Music as Political Expression" with U.. Utah Phillips and a Storytelling Circle with Ed Silberman. If anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

The Festival needs a stage manager, workshop coordinator, tape sales coordinator and some to solicit donations of food from local merchants, some of who have already offered to donate. Please call if interested.

Thanks again to everyone in the folk music community for your support; organizing the Festival is a lot of fun and a great learning experience.
